Getting Personal with Coyotes

Lucky in the flowers July 7, 1997. The day began like many other days during the prior two years at our home in Carrollton Texas. Our indoor-outdoor cats, "Lucky" and "Missy" woke me at 5:30 am to announce that they just had to get outdoors to do whatever they do that early in the morning.

Lucky, pictured on the left, is a rough and tumble, big male that we adopted after he showed up one morning at our condo in California some seven years earlier. He tends to be a bit cautious and quiet most of the time. Missy at our fence

Missy, shown to the right, was a hot tempered, brazen little female calico. I recall that she would get so angry at me sometimes when I would ask her to do something that she showed her defiance and displeasure throughout the evening until the next morning. I loved her dearly. When I had construction projects around the house she would stick right by my side and watch my every move, as if she wanted to learn how to use my tools.
